The American University of Nigeria (AUN) seeks qualified candidates for faculty positions in Fundamental Mathematics in the School of Arts and Sciences.

The American University of Nigeria is a private university in northeast Nigeria, based in Yola, the capital of Adamawa State. A dynamic and continually growing university, whose mission is to be the “development ” university for Nigeria and Sub-Saharan Africa, AUN possesses a reputation for excellence in the preparation of its students; for close student-faculty interaction and collaboration; and for preparing its students to make a difference in the world. Envisioned in 2003 as a model for African higher education, AUN enrolled its first class of 200 students in the Fall of 2005. Today AUN is a rapidly growing, private, non-profit university featuring a wireless campus, state-of-the-art buildings and infrastructure, small classes, fully electronic texts, and a preponderance of U.S. educated faculty and senior administrators. The University serves the needs of students throughout sub-Saharan Africa, currently enrolling 1,500 students and is led by a team of 103 Faculty.

Academic programs at AUN are focused on meeting global challenges and carry full accreditation by the National Universities Commission. Furthermore, AUN is actively seeking accreditation from an established and premier accreditation association in the United States. AUN has collaborative agreements with several U.S. Universities including Tulane University, American University (Washington, DC), George Mason University, and Kansas State University. AUN will begin graduate programs in 2012 including an MBA, MS in Telecommunication and Wireless and Masters in International Development and Health in partnership with Tulane University. AUN has just been approved for the Fulbright program in the U.S.

The University enrolls students in three Schools: The School of Arts and Sciences, The School of Business and Entrepreneurship, and the School of Information Technology and Communications.

Fundamental Mathematics Faculty positions are focused on addressing the entry-level, at-risk students at the University. Candidates experienced in teaching fundamental mathematics and working with at-risk students are encouraged to apply. Applicants must have the appropriate academic credentials: a minimum of a master’s degree in Mathematics, demonstrated experience in working with at-risk students, successful U.S. post-secondary teaching experience, or advanced high school teaching experience. Experience in Africa or other parts of the developing world is a plus.
